COVID-19 India Updates: Total Cases Cross 8 Lakh

On Saturday, 11 July, India saw its biggest one-day spike of COVID-19 cases. The number of cases rose by 27,114 to cross the eight lakh mark, according to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

There are a total of 2,83,407 active cases, and the death toll increased by 519 to 22,123. Meanwhile, 5,15,386 patients have been cured or discharged, and one has migrated.

The ministry data also adds that more than 70 per cent of all deaths are due to the existence of co-morbidities in the patients.

Maharashtra is still the worst-hit state and saw a record single-day jump of of 7,862 new cases taking the total number of cases to 23, 8461. However, the WHO did praise the state’s efforts in containing the virus in Dharavi.

The ministry data also adds that more than 70 per cent of all deaths are due to the existence of co-morbidities in the patients.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research said that 1,13,07,002 samples were tested for COVID-19 till 10 July.
