Administration of the COVID-19 vaccine in India is slated to begin on 16 January.

Two vaccine candidates – SII’s ‘Covishield’ and Bharat Biotech’s ‘Covaxin’ – were earlier given emergency use approval by India’s top drug regulator.

“Priority will be given to the healthcare workers and the frontline workers, estimated to be around 3 crore, followed by those above 50 years and the under-50 population groups with co-morbidities numbering around 27 crore,” the Centre said.

Any of the following photo IDs may be produced at the time of registration:

1. Driving License

2. Voter ID

3. Pan Card

4. Passport

5. Job Card

6. Pension Document

7. Health Insurance Smart Card

8. MNREGA Card

9. Official Identity Cards Issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs

10. Bank, Post Office Passbook Service ID Card Issued by Central/State Govt/Public Limited Companies

Can a person get the vaccine without registration?

No, registration is mandatory for COVID-19 vaccination.

Will I get the vaccine if I am produce my photo ID?

No. Photo ID is mandatory for both registration and verification at the vaccination site to ensure that the intended person is vaccinated.

How much will the vaccine cost?

The answer is not certain right now. However, vaccine doses for healthcare and frontline workers in the first phase will be made available for free.

What are the safety precautions we need to follow at the session site?

1. You must rest at the vaccination centre for at least half an hour after taking the COVID-19 vaccine.

2. Inform the nearest health/ANM,ASHA in case you subsequently feel any discomfort or uneasiness.

3. Remember to continue following COVID appropriate behaviors like wearing masks, maintaining hand hygiene and physical distancing.

How will the beneficiary receive information about the vaccination date, time and site?

The details will reach your phone in an SMS after online registration. The beneficiary will receive a QR code based certificate on their phone after getting the dose.

How many vaccine doses are needed and in what intervals?

Two doses of vaccine, 28 days apart, need to be taken by an individual to complete the vaccination schedule.

When would antibodies develop after taking the dose.

Protective levels of antibodies are generally developed two weeks after receiving the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Can patients taking cancer, diabetes, hypertension medicines get vaccinated too?

Yes, definitely. These individuals are at higher risk of COVID complications, making it even more crucial for them to receive the vaccine.
