In a first for India, the Kerala government imposed a “fat tax” of 14.5% on branded restaurants selling food like pizzas, burgers, tacos, sandwiches, and pasta.

Kerala has the second most people suffering from obesity after Punjab, according to a national family health survey. The government now wishes to check this with a tax.

Dr Anoop Misra, a renowned endocrinologist joined The Quint for a Facebook live to help decode the tax that has everybody worried.
