Every apartment/individual house should be made to plant and then take care of at least one sapling.
All the road dividers should have green cover to the maximum possible extent. This also helps in reducing pollution on that particular road in addition to providing shade.
Rainwater harvesting should be made compulsory for apartments/individual houses within a certain size limit.
Barren lands should be covered with grass as much as possible, reducing dirt and dust. Government should procure grass varieties which can grow easily without needing any care or too much water.
Heavy penalties should be imposed for illegal cutting of trees. Huge tree cover, on both banks of rivers, to be encouraged as suggested by Sadhguru (Jaggi Vasudev).
Vertical gardens should be encouraged below the flyovers in the cities. Factories and industries operating without permits should be shut down.
Subsidies should be provided to every household for getting smoke-free modular chimneys on similar lines of Ujjwala Yojna (Prime Minister Modi’s welfare programme launched in 2016).
Vehicles plying without pollution checks should not be allowed to continue. Carpooling should be encouraged, single occupants in four wheelers should only drive hatchbacks/sedan, not SUV's.
It is not the government but us, the people, who need to change. Little-by-little but surely, we would find a way to deal with the monster of air pollution that we have created.
