In a medical college in Kerala’s Malappuram district, a doctor performed a hernia surgery on a 7-year-old boy who had actually come to get a growth in his nasal passage removed.

This accident took place due to a mix up in the names as another boy with a similar name had come for a hernia surgery.

The 7-year-old boy, Mohammed Danish, had come with his parents to get his nasal polyps removed but was confused with another patient named Dhanush who had come for a hernia surgery.

According to a report by NDTV, the state health minister KK Shylaja has ordered a probe into the case and has suspended the doctor, Suresh Kumar, adding that the patients should not suffer due to the negligence of the doctors.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident by the state rights commission. The members of the panel have asked the hospital superintendent for a report with the statements of all the staff present inside the operation theatre.

According to sources the boy will be given free treatment owing to the negligence of the doctors and staff.
