Condom Rap Is Here to Emphasise the Importance of Contraception
The song is being released on the occasion of World Population Day by Population Foundation of India.
In case you’re still wondering about the importance of protection when engaging in sexual intercourse, let us help you. This time, instead of preachy guidelines or drab pamphlets, a colourful song, titled Condom Rap is here to convey the message in a vibrant manner.
Made by the Population Foundation of India (PFI), the song reminds you that not only does a condom protect you from unwanted pregnancies, but it also provides protection against sexual transmitted diseases and infections. The song is being released on the occasion of World Population Day on 11 July by the producers of the show Main Kuch Bhi Kar Sakti Hoon (MKBKSH) under a campaign called #CondomBole. It addresses young people, primarily men, highlighting their role in family planning and use of contraception.
The burden of contraception primarily lies with women in India according to the National Family Health Survey, 2015-16, which was conducted by the Ministry of Health. It further revealed that three out of every eight men believe that contraception is a woman’s responsibility.
When it comes to numbers, 88 percent of all modern contraception is used by women who are between the age of 15 and 49 years. Add to it the fact that awareness about contraception among women is abysmal. Several of them, after being on the pill for a couple of months, talk about the unexpected effects of it on their bodies.
A large number of women were also found to use traditional contraceptive methods like monitoring the menstrual cycle or the 'pull out' method while modern contraceptive methods were found to be more popular among the unmarried, sexually active women, the Survey said. While more men and women believe in the efficiency of condoms, 20 percent of the men also felt that a woman who used contraception was more likely to have multiple sexual partners.
