Battles inside the ring aren’t the only ones Dwayne Johnson has won. Everyone’s favourite WWE wrestler and now a Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has opened up about his battle with depression.

Celebrities sharing their struggles in public goes a long way in breaking stereotypes about mental health that scar our society.

Thank you, ‘The Rock’. For opening up and helping the world understand that ‘macho men’ go through depression too.

Johnson rightly mentions in his tweet that “dudes have a tendency to keep it in.” The perception that depression is only for the “weak” stigmatises mental health issues and discourages people from sharing their struggles.

A former professional wrestler and one of Hollywood’s biggest action heroes is definitely not someone who is “weak” and yes, he can suffer from depression. And so can you and I. So, stop making it a taboo and let people share and talk about their mental health.

In an interview with the British tabloid “The Express”, Dwayne Johnson said:

I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.

He reveals how he’s been through tough times that his fans know nothing about. His worst time came as a teen when he saw his mother attempt suicide.

Johnson added that he’s now using his experience to try and help others.

We both healed but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.

Thank you, ‘The Rock’, for helping the world understand that ‘macho men’ can go through depression too.

Depression is plaguing our country and affecting people around us more often than we realise. It is a medical condition, not some feeling that you can get over. It won’t just go away.
