Decisions, much as we may try, are something we cannot avoid. Even if we are not making it or are procrastinating the decision – we are unconsciously deciding not to decide. We make hundreds of decisions per day, big and small. Whether it’s deciding what to eat, choosing what to wear, how to respond to a situation or whether or not to confront your boss; we spend a lot of time decision making and then further time with the consequences of those decisions. Hence, it would go to say that making better decisions would make life smoother and easier for us and would make us more efficient.

These three things, once ingrained might help you make better decisions and in the long run, faster ones as well.

Before making a decision, one certainly needs to be look at the cons and pros and hence requires some information of what the situation entails of or what the consequences would be. That’s only fair – but at the same time to be careful not to wait too much for impending information.

For example, you might want to buy a black dress and its okay if you don’t buy it in the first shop you see. You decide to look around, maybe you find something better or cheaper. But at what point do you say that okay now I’ve seen it all?

Because there are no limits to the number of brick and mortar or online avenues, so if you don’t limit yourself to either a number of shops – or when you find something in a price range, you’ll drive yourself to be anxious with the weight of having to make a decision you’re unable to make.

A solution would be to pre-decide the criteria’s upon which you’ll make the decision and then simply look for that information.

Sometimes when you’re actively looking for insight, it doesn’t come – instead it comes when you least expect it. So if you’re wanting to make an important decision, try turning your mind off it for a while. Sleep if you can or maybe just do something else which you need to concentrate off.

By not pressurizing yourself to come to a decision stat, you might give your unconscious the chance to come to a decision.

Having a good night’s sleep makes you well-rested and feeling fresh which helps when having to make an important decision.

You’re not expected to battle everything out yourself, and getting perceptive helps infinitely more times than we realize. So, ask people who you think might have valuable suggestions for help – it could be someone who is older or someone who has gone through the same thing or someone you generally trust.

While asking for help is good, make sure you’re choosy about who you ask, cause you don’t want to end up more confused and you definitely don’t want to ask somebody who don’t resonate with.

While asking them for help, also try to frame your questions better. Don’t ask them what you should do, instead ask them what they think of the situation. That way you’ll encourage them to think empathetically - which will make a world of difference in their response.
