Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the national capital could currently be facing the third COVID-19 wave, and it may see a drop in cases now.
“The first peak of coronavirus cases in Delhi was on June 23. The second wave of coronavirus in Delhi was on September 17. The national capital reported over 7,000 single-day cases and we think, the cases should drop now.”Satyendar Jain
Speaking of the healthcare infrastructure and hospital capacities, he said, “Delhi government has added 500 Covid beds, including 110 ICU beds in the govt hospitals across the national capital. In private hospitals, 685 more beds have been added.”
"Delhi govt has filed Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court to address the High Court overturn of our mandate to reserve 80 per cent beds as ICU beds in private hospitals,” ANI tweeted quoting Jain.
“ICU beds are still available in govt hospitals in Delhi. But since affluent people prefer private hospitals over govt hospitals so, they are facing problems in private hospitals.”Satyendar Jain
The unlock and the festive season could be the reason behind the sudden spike.
"Unlock has happened, it is a festival season also, many people have to go to the market to shop because it is a festival season. Markets are crowded in many places...there are many reasons," he said. He also requested everybody to wear masks till a vaccine for the virus is developed.
“Pollution is not the cause of Covid, but both are dangerous. The biggest reason for the increase in infections is our behavior. If we do not wear masks, don’t follow social distancing, then it is the biggest reason for a surge.”Satyendar Jain
The national capital on Friday, 6 November, logged the highest single-day spike of 7,178 new Covid cases, taking Delhi's overall coronavirus tally to 4,28,831 amid the festive season and rising pollution levels in the city.
Delhi has been recording more than 6,000 Covid-19 cases daily for the last four days. It had earlier witnessed its highest spike two days ago on Wednesday, 5 November, when it reported 6,842 cases, following which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal admitted that a 'third wave' of infection had hit the national capital.
