According to The Indian Express, the Centre and State government have ordered probes into the incident in which the parents of a seven-year-old – who died of dengue after allegedly being denied admission by prominent private hospitals in Delhi – committed suicide. Parents of Avinash jumped from a four-storeyed building in south Delhi’s Lado Sarai.

The government has, reportedly,  issued a show-cause notices to five hospitals.

Moolchand, Max Saket, Akash Hospital, Saket City Hospital and Irene Hospital were asked to explain why they refused to admit Avinash Rout — he died at the Batra Hospital on September 8 — and why their registration should not be cancelled.

The seven-year-old was taken to six hospitals between 2 pm and 11 pm on September 7, claimed the boy’s grandfather.

The Indian Express report adds that the preliminary reports of the Delhi government inquiry said Avinash died of dengue shock syndrome with “septic shock” or infection in the body, “disseminated intravascular coagulation” (formation of multiple blood clots in the body) and “multi organ failure”.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Keriwal tweeted;

The deceased parents of Avinash were identified as Laxmichandra and Babita Rout, both natives of Odisha, said DCP (south) Prem Nath.

The police have initiated an inquest proceeding into the incident under Section 174 CrPC. But no case has been registered so far in the matter.

The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has sought a report from the Delhi government by September 15.

The couple was discovered by a neighbour with their arms tied together with a stole.

The couple had left behind a one-page suicide note in Odia, in which they written that “it is nobody’s fault” and “the decision” was theirs.

Laxmichandra worked with a private company and the family had been living for more than one year in a two-room rented apartment at Lado Sarai, said a police official.
