Despite LaMo Row, Sushma Will Aid Indian Incarcerated in Iran

While under fire from the Opposition, Sushma Swaraj has publicly committed to helping two Indians stranded abroad.

Controversies around Lalit Modi notwithstanding, Minister for External Affairs (MEA) Sushma Swaraj is trying to help Indians stuck abroad. Swaraj has promised assistance to Sushil, a young man who has been imprisoned in Iran for the last two years.

Reacting to an India Toady report, Sushma Swaraj has promised her ministry will do it’s best to bring Sushil back to India.

Sushil, a resident of Pashchim Vihar, Delhi joined a Dubai-based shipping company in 2013. He was arrested along with his shipmates in Iran on charges of oil smuggling.

While under fire from the Opposition, Sushma Swaraj has publicly committed to helping two Indians stranded abroad.

Sushil’s mother Renu along with his sister have been trying to secure his release for the last two years. They have sought help from the MEA in the past, but to no avail. Sushil’s father passed away recently.

Sushil is the second Indian stranded abroad that Swaraj has committed to bring back to India.

The government has been trying to locate the family of Geeta, a deaf-mute girl in her early twenties who has been stranded in Pakistan for the last 11 years. Geeta’s story came to the limelight on the heels of the success of Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which deals with a young Pakistani girl stranded in India.
